AngeliaMailTM - On-Line Help - Defining SMTP Host Connections

Before AngeliaMail can send EMails using SMTP, you must give it enough information to locate and connect to your SMTP Server, and (if required by your email administrator or ISP) provide authentication information so that your SMTP server will accept Email traffic from AngeliaMail for forwarding.  SMTP Host Connection configurations also contain “From” and “Reply To” email addresses that will be used on any Email originating in AngeliaMail using that particular SMTP Host Connection definition.

The information required by AngeliaMail is identical to that which you provided to your desktop Email client (such as Outlook or Outlook Express) when you configured it.  For example, if you are using Outlook Express, open "Tools | Accounts | Properties | Servers" and look at the value in “Outgoing Mail (SMTP):”.  This is the value you will need to provide for the “SMTP Server Address” item in the AngeliaMail Configuration Utility’s SMTP Host Configuration dialog.

If your SMTP server requires authentication, you will need to provide your account name in “SMTP Logon User-Id” (your account name is often your email address) and email account password in “SMTP Logon Password”.  Once again, these will be the same values that you used to configure your desktop EMail client.  Passwords are stored by AngeliaMail in a secure encrypted format, and are displayed only as “######”.  Please check with your System Administrator, EMail Server Administrator, or ISP if you are not sure what values are required.

Your System or Email Server administrator may need to create an email account or configure specific permissions to allow access to SMTP services by remote computers – particularly if you are installing AngeliaMail on a system such as a server that does not normally generate Email traffic.

AngeliaMail allows you to configure as many SMTP Host Connections as you wish (except that the Evaluation License is limited to a single SMTP Host definition).  For instance, if you are using AngeliaMail for both batch program abort alerts and PDF sales report distribution, you may want the “From” and “Reply-To” email addresses that recipients see to differ between these two applications even though both are using the same SMTP Server account.

The “SMTP Host Connection Wizard” provides additional documentation, and step by step instructions, for creating AngeliaMail SMTP Host Connection configurations.  The “SMTP Host Connection Wizard” may be found under both the “SMTP Hosts” and “Help” selection groups on the AngeliaMail Configuration Utility's main form.

Note: To Delete an SMTP Host Definition – select the host for modification and check its “Deleted” box.  Deleted Hosts remain in the configuration until it is saved and re-loaded.  Loading a configuration into Configuration Utility occurs only when it is started, or when the “Select A Different AngeliaMail Configuration File” is selected.  We suggest using delete with care since deleting a host that is referenced in any AngeliaMail Command File or batch file command line is likely to result in AngeliaMail failures.
