AngeliaSyncTM - On-Line Help - Using The Folder Synchronization Analysis Form

AngeliaSync's Folder Synchronization Analysis is a unique and powerful feature that allows you to quickly see the differences between your Source and Target Folder Trees. To display the Folder Synchronization Analysis, select your AngeliaSync settings by loading a previously saved profile or by entering your settings on the AngeliaSync main form and then click the "Analyze" toolbar button. An example of the Folder Synchronization Form is shown on the left side of this page - click the small image to see a full size version.

The Folder Synchronization Analysis list shows all of the eligible folders and files in the Source Folder in an easy to understand "Tree View". Only those files and folders that meet the requirements specified in your Source Folder Processing Options (see Selecting A Source Folder And Related Options for more information) and "Filename Extensions to Include" criteria (see Limiting File Types for more information) are included in the list. You can expand any folder and see its contents by clicking on the "+" symbol to the left of the folder's icon - or you can collapse an expanded folder by clicking the "-" symbol.

The update status of each file is displayed in the "Selected" column of the list. Those files that are eligible for update based on the Target Folder Processing Options specified (see Selecting A Target Folder And Related Options for more information) are indicated with a green checkmark and the word "Yes" in green text if they are to be updated or the word "New" in bright blue type if they are to be created. Files that are not eligible for updating are indicated with a gray "X" symbol and the word "No" in deep red type.

You can change the selection status of any file or folder that is eligible for update by double-clicking on that line in the tree view. The "Selected" value of the item will change to a bright red "X" symbol and the word "No" in bright red text. You can change the "Selected" value back by double-clicking it again. Note that you can not change the selected value of files or folders that are ineligible for update based on your Target Folder Processing Options. Also, modifying the "Selected" value of a folder has the effect of modifying the value of all files and folders sub-ordinate to that folder.

The Folder Synchronization Analysis list also shows the "Copy Size" and "Net Size" of the selected folders and files. The "Copy Size" is the total number of bytes of data that will need to be copied to perform the synchronization of that item and, if the item is a folder, all of the items subordinate to it. The "Net Size" is the net effect that the updating of that item will have on the free space remaining on the target device -- so the Copy Size and Net Size for a "New" file will both equal the size of the file, while the Net Size for a file to be updated may well be zero (or even negative).

The Folder Synchronization Analysis also displays a running total of the number of files selected for update, the total "Copy Size" of the files selected for update, and the estimated impact of the update on the free space on the target device. As you make changes in the "Selected" status of individual files and folders, the running totals displayed at the top of the form will be adjusted.

If you selected the "Perform Full Synchronization" Processing Option, the Folder Synchronization Analysis will display two Tree Views. The Tree Views are identified by a tab at the top of the screen. Click on the "Source" tab to see the Source Folder Tree View or click the "Target" tab to see the Target Folder Tree View.

When you are satisfied that your settings will result in the desired synchronization, click the "Execute" button to perform the synchronization. Or click the "Cancel" button to return to the AngeliaSync main form. Clicking "Execute" on the Analysis form will affect the Copy Progress Form which will display additional information made available to it by the Folder Synchronization Analysis. See the Copy Progress Form section for more information.
