AngeliaSyncTM - On-Line Help - Logging And Reporting Options
AngeliaSync offers a number of logging and reporting options that can provide a useful audit trail documenting the performance of
AngeliaSync, and, particularly when operating in Automation Mode, provide a useful method of identifying and resolving any problems.
The Logging function (if employed) provides a cumulative record of AngeliaSync operations while the Reporting function (if employed)
records only the most recent execution of AngeliaSync that is directed to that Report File.
Whenever the "Execute" tool bar button is pressed, or when a stored profile or profile group is "Executed", AngeliaSync collects
information about that run and presents it in the "Synchronization Report" section of the Copy Progress form. In Interactive
Mode, or when the program halts for operator acknowledgement in Automation Mode, the Synchronization Report is expanded to the
full extent of the Copy Progress Form (an example is shown at the left side of this page). If Logging or Reporting has been enabled, a copy of this Synchronization Report is saved
in the log and/or report file specified. If neither Logging or Reporting has been enabled, the "Save Report" button on the Copy
Progress Form will be enabled which allows you to save the report in a location of your choice.
When Event Reporting is selected, a Report File Folder and Report File Name must be supplied. Report Folder is entered in
the same fashion as the Target Folder (see Selecting A Target Folder for more information).
Report File Name must conform to operating system file naming rules and can not exceed 50 characters in length. We recommend that
you use a file name extension of ".Rpt" for report files. The report file should not be the same file as the log file if both
are selected. The Report File can not be located in the Source Folder (or sub-folders) and can not be located in the Target
Folder if the "Full Synchronization" option is selected.
When Event Logging is selected, a Log File Folder and Log File Name must be supplied. Log File Folder is entered in
the same fashion as the Target Folder (see Selecting A Target Folder for more information).
Log File Name must conform to operating system file naming rules and can not exceed 50 characters in length. We recommend that
you use a file name extension of ".Log" for log files. The log file should not be the same file as the report file if
both are selected. The log file can not be located in the Source Folder (or sub-folders) and can not be located in the Target
Folder if the "Full Synchronization" option is selected.
There are a number of processing options that control the content of the Synchronization Report, as well as selections to enable or
disable logging and reporting. These options are effective in both Interactive and Automation modes. They are:
- Enable Event Reporting - selecting this option causes AngeliaSync to automatically write the contents of
the Copy Progress Form's "Synchronization Report" to the location defined in "Report File Folder" and "Report File Name"
(which become required if this option is selected). Any previous contents of this file will be overwritten.
- Enable Event Logging - selecting this option causes AngeliaSync to automatically append the contents of
the Copy Progress Form's "Synchronization Report" to the location defined in "Log File Folder" and "Log File Name"
(which become required if this option is selected). Since the log is cumulative, the previous contents of this file will
remain intact with the current Synchronization Report added at the end of the file.
- Show Errors In Progress Display - if this option is selected, all error events will be written to the
Synchronization Report on the Copy Progress Form. This is the default value, and we recommend that this option always
be selected to aid in troubleshooting. If this option is not selected then error events will not appear in the Synchronization
Report.
- Show Warnings In Progress Display - if this option is selected, all warning events will be written to the
Synchronization Report on the Copy Progress Form. This is the default value, and we recommend that this option always be
selected to aid in troubleshooting. If this option is not selected then warning events will not appear in the Synchronization
Report.
- Show Source Folder Names In Progress Display - if this option is selected, the names and paths of all source
folders and sub-folders that are processed will be written to the Synchronization Report. This is the default value, and we
recommend that this option be employed to aid in troubleshooting. If this option is not selected then source folder and sub-folder
names will not be recorded in the Synchronization Report.
- Show Names Of Files And Folders That Are Created - if this option is selected, the names and paths of all files
and folders that are created in the target folder tree will be recorded in the Synchronization Report. This is the default value,
and we recommend that this option normally be employed. If this option is not selected then the names of target files and folders
that are created by AngeliaSync will not be recorded in the Synchronization Report.
- Show Names Of Files That Are Updated - if this option is selected, the names and paths of all files
that are updated in the target folder tree will be recorded in the Synchronization Report. This is the default value,
and we recommend that this option normally be employed. If this option is not selected then the names of target files and folders
that are updated will not be recorded in the Synchronization Report.
- Show Names Of Files That Are Up-To-Date - if this option is selected, the names and paths of all files
in the target folder tree that are up-to-date, and therefore not updated, will be recorded in the Synchronization Report. If this
option is not selected then the names of target files that are up-to-date and therefore not updated will not be recorded in the
Synchronization Report (this is the default value).
- Show Copy Buffer Size Trace - if this option is selected then a copy buffer size trace will be recorded in the
Synchronization Report. The Copy Buffer Trace records the size of the copy buffer each time it changes. This option is useful
in identifying and resolving certain types of problems but is not normally employed. The default value is "not selected".
